In Portland we stayed at the Ace Hotel.  Take a look at the pictures below.  Our stay was very comfortable, and Ace is located downtown near the Pearl district, so you’re close to a lot of shoppes and restaurants.  I loved the little parking pass they give you (top right), it’s the best way to describe the vibe at this hotel.  The lobby was always full of people reading, drinking delicious lattés from Stumptown (right next door with lobby access), and chatting.  Ace has a real easygoing appeal to it, and I highly recommend this hotel if you are in Portland.  So that was the sweet, here’s the bitter:  I did find that the gentlemen checking us in was not as talkative as I was expecting.  Usually when visiting a hotel, I always look forward to chatting about what cool things to do in the city, local recommendations, etc, but he quickly checked us in, explained the parking scenario, and that was pretty much it.  I will say that everyone was dressed well, very professional, and the check in process was very quick and easy, so that is definitely good, and when we checked out the same non-talkative gentlemen was quite chatty (on the way in would have been a little better though).  Overall, I loved the hustle and bustle of the lobby, and the amazing smell of fresh coffee grinds coming from Stumptown, it was so relaxing.  This hotel gets my recommendation!
