Family-owned and roasted coffee beans that are good for everyone and roasted under the same Rooftop as it's always been.
This is their 4th harvest purchasing from the Women of Pijao co-op, making it their longest partnership. Last season, COVID restrictions made this coffee unavailable to them, but they made sure they’d get their hands on it again. It makes it’s way to Rooftop via Campesino in Colombia, and Bodhi Leaf in California.
"This year’s lot is the best I’ve tasted from the co-op – it’s sweet and textured and is both cozy and super complex. Reminded me of s’mores covered in strawberry jam, with a cola herbal-y undertone. The origin story of this co-op is also one of my favourites. Back in 2010, women from Pijao travelled to the Colombian Coffee Federation’s meeting in the regional capital to voice their discontents regarding the lack of support for female farmers, many of whom were also raising families as single mothers. As a result, they received funding to form the co-op, as well as a roastery and café in Pijao where they can prepare their own coffees for their community. The co-op now comprises 19 farmers, who work closely with Campesino Coffee (an exporting agency based in Medellin, Colombia) to continually improve their coffees and receive higher prices to invest in their community. I’m certain this coffee will be on our menu for years to come, and I can’t wait to see Rooftop and the Women of Pijao co-op grow together, harvest to harvest."
